Summer of Savings / weekly deals 5/20-26/2010

It’s hard to believe it, but it’s almost summertime. The kids will be out of school soon, and looking for fun activities to do. And, we all like activities that are free or cheap, right? If you take the time to look around, there are usually quite a few activities that are free or almost free. Here are a few ideas.

1. Kids Bowl Free. – Kids Bowl Free allows your family to bowl 2 Games FREE everyday all summer. Plus, there is a family pass option where parents, grandparents, older children that don’t qualify for the Kids Bowl Free passes and babysitters can join in the fun and get the same great 2 FREE Game offer every day. Visit http://www.KidsBowlFree.com for all the details. In addition, if you sign up and enter my email address (renitaperrone@gmail.com) I’ll get a chance for a vacation to Orlando! ? I’d love that free trip!

2. Free Summer Movies for kids. . They usually offer these on a specific morning each week. In my experience, they are also very lenient about bringing in your own bags with snacks and not having to purchase them, but check with your theater on the rules. They  offer a “G” and a “PG” rated movie each week. Here are links to three different theater groups which offer free summer movies for kids:

Cinemark

Regal

Phoenix Theatres

There are probably more that are smaller, local theaters so call your local theater to see what they have to offer. Some offer low-cost movie options also.

3. Parks and Recreation – check your local Parks and Recreation website for parks and nature centers.

Palm Beach County – http://www.co.palm-beach.fl.us/parks/
Broward County – http://www.broward.org/parks/Pages/Default.aspx

4. Swimming – if you don’t have your own pool, or a community pool, you should be able to search public pools using your local parks & recreation website. Public pools are generally very affordable, and often offer other amenities, such as kiddie splash/wading areas or water slides. Or perhaps even investing in a small water play area for your backyard would be worth it.

Be creative and I’m sure you can come up with other ideas as well!
