Mastering The Basics, Part II / Giveaway / weekly deals 10/7-10/13/2010

Please take a minute and enter or book giveaway!

Last week I mentioned that I was going to be reviewing some of the “basic training” information regarding coupon shopping and getting the most from your money. This week I’m going to talk about where to find coupons.

There are many sources for coupons:

1) The Sunday Newspaper. Almost every week, aside from a holiday weekend, there will be coupon inserts in the paper.

2) Many manufacturer’s will have printable coupons on their websites. If they don’t, email them and ask them for coupons. Many times they will send you a nice batch of coupons in the mail!

3) Look for “blinkies” in stores – these are the coupons that are in a dispenser on the store shelves next to the products

4) Look in magazines. Walmart’s All You Magazine is a great one for coupons – http://www.allyou.com/

5) Many mid-week papers have coupon inserts as well. Locally the “Forum” and “Jewish Journal” both have coupons that come out on Wednesday.

6) Peelies – these are coupons that are attached to the packages in stores. Also, be sure to look inside the boxes/packages of items you buy. Sometimes they will print coupons there as well.

7) Tearpads – these are coupons that are stuck together in a pad, located usually on the shelf near the product, or perhaps on a display stand for the product.

8) Publix has several magazines that usually have coupons in them. I suggest subscribing to them (they are free) as the store copies don’t always have the coupons.

Publix Greenwise –

FamilyStyle –  http://publix.com/clubs/familystyle/Home.do
Publix Wine Guide –  http://publix.com/clubs/wine/Home.do (I am not a wine drinker but this magazine often has coupons for items that go nicely with wine, such as cheese, seafood, etc)

In addition, if you qualify, sign up for the following:
Publix Baby Club –  http://publix.com/clubs/baby/Home.do
Publix Preschool Pals –  http://publix.com/preschool/NonMemberHome.do

9) Check with other stores for any “loyalty” rewards programs they might have.

10) Many stores will have extra coupon booklets that come out through the year. Always check their sales flyer areas to see if they have any available. Product demonstrators often leave extra coupons at the sales flyer area as well.

11) Print coupons online. There are many sites that offer coupons:
Coupons.com
Smartsource.com
Morethantrivia.com
Mypoints.com

These are just a few of the sites I regularly use.
