Chosing The Right Cashier – weekly deals 1/13-1/19/2011

One of the most frustrating things to me, when shopping, is to get to the register to check out and end up with a cashier that checks and matches every single coupon I am using. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not trying to use coupons unless they are for items I have in my cart. But, when you hand the cashier 20-30 coupons (maybe more), it can be extremely time consuming for them to stop and match every item. I have learned that it is very helpful to know the cashiers.  I realize this isn’t always possible, but when I find a cashier that seems to be more “coupon-friendly,” I make it a point to remember their face so I can try to go back to them the next time.  I know some people actually set the coupons right on top of the item they are for. However, I’ve found they often can get misplaced as I’m stacking things on the belt. More likely is that I just don’t have time to sort them out like that as I’m putting items on the belt for the cashier.

I also believe in making it as easy for the cashier’s as possible.  If you have coupons to get an item free, mark the price on the coupon if you can. Or at least make sure they know you have that coupon before they ring that item in so they can write the price on it as they scan it. I also stack my coupons in a pile with the store coupons first, which often have to be keyed in manually, and the manufacturer coupons after that.  Sometimes that is a strategic move… if you have a coupon for $ off a certain purchase amount (ex: $5 off of $50), you want them to take that coupon off first. Otherwise, your other coupons might take your total below the minimum purchase amount and then they might not accept it.

I wanted to share this YouTube video of TheKrazyCouponLady. She was on the Extreme Couponing show on TLC.  I absolutely loved that she donated so much of her stockpile.  You can view it here.

**FREEBIES**

A freebie for parents who need some help for teaching a child to read:  Funnix is offering their Downloadable Children’s Reading Program (a $249 value) free during the month of January. You can find it here.

Walgreens has Bic Triumph pens on sale for $1.99 through 1/15/11. Use the $2 off 1 coupon in Sunday’s Smart Source coupon insert to get them free. Please note that some stores will not ring a coupon through for OVER the amount of the item, so you may want to pick up another small item with it, if you don’t have any additional shopping. Some store may adjust the coupon down to $1.99.

**PUBLIX CUSTOMER APPRECIATION DAY **

I’ve been advised that Publix is having a Customer Appreciation Day on Tuesday, 1/19.  They are supposed to be having lots of free samples and coupons to give away. I do not know if it is the same day for all stores, so check with your local store.
